October’s Business Book of the Month: Steal Like an Artist 10 Things Nobody Told You About Being Creative by AUSTIN KLEON
A quick read that I’ll leave by my bedside table for inspiration. The main thing I will take away from this book is the obvious: Being open to inspiration is the biggest step toward being creative. And being yourself is what it’s all about. I love this quote from page 38, “Conan O’Brien has talked about how comedians try to emulate their heroes, fall short, and end up doing their own thing. Johnny Carson tried to be Jack Benny but ended up Johnny Carson…”. A nice reminder to “emulate your heroes” but how your “shortcomings” are what defines you and what you should transform into your own style.
