Booking Your Photography Session

Step 1: Scheduling Your Session
To reserve a date, you’ll sign some paperwork and pay a session fee of $300. If we haven’t already chosen a date, the easiest way to compare calendars is for you to email or call me with a few dates that work for you – I always try to be as flexible as possible. Once that’s set, booking is 100% online and takes just a few minutes.

As you look at your calendar, here are a few things to consider:

  • Weekend sessions are in high demand: Weekend dates tend to fill up quickly, so if you’re hoping for a Saturday or Sunday session, I recommend booking as early as possible. I do offer weekend slots, but please note that these dates are limited and can often be fully booked well in advance.
  • Spring and fall are the busiest seasons: These seasons offer the best outdoor weather and gorgeous natural light, which makes them the most popular times for family photos. If you want a session during these months, especially on weekends, it’s best to reach out sooner rather than later to secure your spot.
  • Plan ahead for holidays or special occasions: If you’re hoping to have your photos ready for a specific holiday, such as Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, or the December holidays, I recommend booking at least a month in advance. This ensures I have enough time to process your images, create prints, and meet your delivery deadlines.
  • Morning sessions are perfect for families with babies and young children: Kids are often at their best first thing in the morning—both because they tend to be more rested and because the light is softer and more flattering. If you have little ones, I encourage you to consider scheduling your session in the early morning, ideally close to sunrise.
  • Late afternoon is ideal for older children and families: For families with older children or those who have babies who aren’t morning people, the late afternoon or early evening is another great time to capture your session. Typically, this would be around 1.5 hours before sunset, when the light is warm and golden.
  • Weather won’t stop us from getting great photos: I’m flexible about rescheduling for inclement weather, but I also understand that sometimes sticking to the schedule is a priority. If we can’t shoot outdoors due to rain or extreme weather, I’m happy to do an indoor session at your home or at a semi-indoor location. Just let me know what works best for you.

Step 2: The Session Itself
Once you’ve booked your session, I’ll send you a digital prep guide via email right away. This guide is packed with helpful tips on everything from picking outfits to making sure the kids are in a good mood. It’s been refined over the years, so it usually answers most of the common questions, but if there’s anything you’re unsure about, I’m more than happy to chat and offer any extra guidance you need!

In the week leading up to your session, I’ll send you a confirmation and reminder email to finalize the details. This is also a great time to discuss any last-minute ideas or questions you might have. On the day of the session, plan for it to last about 60 minutes, though I’m flexible and don’t have a strict time limit. If things run a bit longer (or shorter), that’s totally fine—your session is about capturing the moments, not the clock! If you have a specific timing concern, like needing to wrap things up for a meeting, just let me know ahead of time, and I’ll make sure we’re all set. The goal is to keep things relaxed, enjoyable, and stress-free for everyone involved.

Step 3: The Fun Part!
Within three weeks of your session, you’ll receive an email from me with a link to a slideshow that includes all of your fully-edited images. Once you’ve had a chance to see them and marvel for a bit, you’ll decide which of the three collections below best suits your needs. After that, you’ll have a full month of access to the online gallery, during which you can select the specific digital files and print items you want to use to fulfill your collection.

Collection A – $750

  • Your choice of 10 high resolution digital files with print release
  • $100 credit good toward your choice of anything in the gallery store: prints, frames, albums, digital files, etc.

Collection B – $1000

  • Your choice of 25 high resolution digital files with print release
  • $300 credit good toward your choice of anything in the gallery store: prints, frames, albums, digital files, etc.

Collection C – $1250

  • A complete set of high resolution digital files with print release
  • $600 credit good toward your choice of anything in the gallery store: prints, frames, albums, digital files, etc.

What you’re going to do with your images is perhaps the most important aspect to consider when you’re planning for a photo session, but it’s all too often the aspect that’s overlooked… all that time and money invested deserve a better return than photos gathering dust on a hard drive somewhere. You’ll never get the same feeling looking at your photos on a screen as you will seeing them on your wall or flipping through the pages of an album, so I include a substantial print credit with every collection.
